Keys For Life

February 9, 2020

What keys to life does Jesus share with us through several accounts in Mark’s gospel? We can often read the Bible in small bites and pieces not capturing the context. As Mark shares about the good news of the Gospel, God’s kingdom, and the Messiah in Mark 10 we learn several keys to life.

Servant of All

February 2, 2020

How do you define success? Jesus had a different understanding of success than many of us have. Our understanding of success can influence how we understand the mission and message of Christ.

The Transfiguration

January 26, 2020

The urgent message of Christ is building as we read through Mark’s Gospel. It’s a message of God’s kingdom (ref. Mk. 1:16). It is the message of the gospel of Christ, the Son of God (ref. Mk. 1:1). However, this message is not what people were expecting. How is it that the Son of Man must suffer many things, be rejected, and killed, and after three days rise again?

WHO IS JESUS?

January 19, 2020

Who is Jesus? This is a question many people have asked. If you were to do a quick Google search, you may find some historical facts. He was a first-century Jewish teacher. He is the central figure in Christianity. You would find articles that say He was the Son of God. You may also find articles written by those who are skeptical. Was Jesus a real person at all? Seemingly, from the time Jesus walked on this earth, there have been many opinions to the question, “Who is Jesus?”. Jesus Himself once asked His disciples this very question and it was answered with many different opinions.

sb42: FEEDING THE FOUR THOUSAND

January 12, 2020

Jesus looks at the multitude who had been with Him for three days has compassion for them.  (Mark 8:2-3)“I have compassion on the multitude, because they have now continued with Me three days and have nothing to eat. 3 And if I send them away hungry to their own houses, they will faint on the way; for some of them have come from afar.”

sb41: Loosed

January 5, 2020

We have been reading through and studying together the Gospel of Mark. It’s not been so much as a verse-by-verse study but more of a study in which we are trying to tie together a few larger themes found in His account. Today, we will continue our studies as we notice Mark 7. However, I would like to back up just a bit for a quick review. Mark begins by stating his purpose for writing “The beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God.” (Mk. 1:1).

sb37: NEW

November 27, 2019

In Mark 2:18-22 the Pharisees question Jesus about fasting. The Pharisees and John's disciples both fast but Jesus' disciples are not fasting. Why are the disciples of Jesus not fasting? In answering this question, Jesus provides three images or picture stories: that of a wedding, the patching of a garment, and old wineskins. What do these three picture images teach us about God's kingdom and how do they relate to Mark's purpose for writing his gospel account?

sb36: UNEXPECTED FORGIVENESS

November 21, 2019

In Mark 2: 1-12 Jesus heals a man who was a paralytic. Jesus said to this man your sins are forgiven you, arise, take up your bed and walk. Some of the scribes were sitting there and reasoning in their hearts, “Why does this Man speak blasphemies like this? Who can forgive sins but God alone?”

Jesus has the power to forgive sins and His kingdom has come. Join us as we continue in our studies of the gospel of Mark.
